Departmental Overview:
The R.E. Department is committed to the promotion of the spiritual and moral development of each student in conjunction with the pursuit of academic excellence. There is a close relationship between Religious Education, the School Ethos and the Pastoral Care Programme. The fostering of the student’s self-esteem, the development of self-respect and respect for others as well the promotion of rationality, responsibility and compassion is central to the Department’s focus.
R.E. is a compulsory subject at Key Stage 3 / 4 and is a very popular choice at A'Level. R.E. enjoys a high profile both within and beyond the classroom e.g. assemblies, liturgies, retreats, fundraising activities and community outreach projects.
Courses:
Key Stage 3:
The study of Religious Education from Year 8 – 10 includes Biblical Studies, World Religions i.e. Christianity, Judaism and Islam, Morality and Relationships and Sex Education.
Key Stage 4:
GCSE Religious Studies (CEA Specification)
Teaching from September 2009
Students study 2 Modules:
- The Christian Church: A study of the Catholic Church and one Protestant Tradition.
- An introduction to Christian Ethics.
GCE Religious Studies AS / A Level (CEA Specification)
Students study 2 Modules
The following combinations are delivered:
- Luke’s Gospel
- The Philosophy of Religion

Faith in Action Programme: Year 13 / 14
A variety of rotating modules are delivered by R.E Teachers and Tutors from outside Agencies which include “Sign Language”, “Growing up in a Divided Society” and “Humanitarian Education”…
Examination Achievement:
GCSE Religious Studies Exam June 2008: Jennifer Murray placed second in Northern Ireland.

Retreats facilitated by Clonard Youth Ministry Team.
Love for Life Presentations to Year 9, 11 and 12.
