As part of her A2 Applied Business Studies course, Susan McCourt took part in Young Enterprise. This programme provides students with an insight into entrepreneurship by setting up and running their own company.
Susan and thirteen other students started a company called Animal Authors Ltd. They produced a short children's story called "Show Me Your Teeth Martha". It told a story that encouraged children to brush their teeth twice a day and to look after their teeth. The book was produced in both English and Irish versions.
Susan was later nominated for the Inspirational Entrepreneur Award which was sponsored by Kennedy Centre.
Susan explains "This was due to the fact I secured a buyer for our trade name, Animal Authors, and I sold the copyright to a local dentist who is planning to provide the short story to children in a west Belfast primary school. I was competing against two other students, but with the votes from family and friends, I won the Inspirational Entrepreneur Award. It was an amazing evening which marked the talent of young people within west Belfast."
