St Dominic's has been selected as a Champion School as part of the Get Set for Community Action programme.
Get Set for Community Action is a programme that aims to strengthen relationships between young people and their local communities through the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect, and the Paralympic Values of courage, determination, equality and inspiration. We're proud to be a trailblazer in this programme.
Thousands of 14-19 year olds, known as Action Leads, will work in teams across the UK, building relationships with local community groups to plan and deliver at least two projects each, in the run-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Among the evidence cited was our work with Habitat for Humanity, Project Zambia, our Art and ICT links with Glenveagh Special School and our musical links with Jordanstown School for the Deaf and Visually Impaired.
As a Champion School, St Dominic's will not only be running our own amazing projects but working with our four cluster schools encouraging them to do the same and providing them with the guidance and support they need to ensure their projects also reach their full potential. This initiative is led by the Citizenship Foundation/Giving Nation team and is funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of their commitment to the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
