Lessons in Law

In December following many outstanding auditions, we found out that we that we had earned a position on the Magistrate’s Court Mock Trial Team lead by Mrs Dickson.  The competition involves the team taking on the roles of barristers, witnesses and court staff in a specially written case.  The team then compete in two rounds against other schools, once as the prosecution and then as the defence.   After many practices the day of the competition approached.  On Saturday the 11th of March, we accompanied by Mrs McCann and Mrs Dickson travelled to Dungannon court.  We competed against Methody and Strathearn with the case of Bek Lejohn, a student charged with domestic burglary.  We enjoyed our time at the competition immensely and we all met new friends.  Unfortunately despite out best efforts, we did not win the competition.

The members of the judiciary who were judging the competition commented on the student’s performance, “very well prepared, great conviction and confidence” and “The team performed well together, great preparation and presentation skills shown.”
