After some very convincing wins in their Ulster games unfortunately St. Clare's CS Manorhamilton won the Lidl Ladies All-Ireland Junior Schools Semi-Final against our U16 team on Friday 16th March at the PeaceLink facility in Clones. St. Clare's got off to a strong start with three goals inside the first five minutes, with a very nervous St Dominic's team their decisions let them down. Fifteen minutes in St. Dominic's were still a little rattled allowed a further two goals but these were at least answered by a few well deserved scores. They headed into the changing room out of the rain at half time very deflated 1.3 v 5.4.
The second half began and St Dominic's refused to give up. Lead by their captain Ciara Brown who tirelessly carried ball throughout the pitch. They created some good chances and Leah McAuley secured two plenty's. The final score ended 6.06 v 4.07. In a game that seemed a lot closer than the score line suggests, St. Dominic's dominated in possession in the second half but were kept at bay by a combination of some good defensive work and some unlucky refereeing decisions.
This young team will reflect on this experience and take comfort in the glory of their Ulster title. They are already looking forward to next year.
