Judo Academy had a special visit from Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Megan Fletcher

On only the second class, St. Dominic's Judo Academy had a special visit from Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Megan Fletcher.  Megan is an Irish international competitor and is hoping to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.  Megan led the judo session, spoke with the girls about her experiences in sport on and off the mats, finished with a Q&A session and photographs with her Commonwealth Gold medal.

Mr. Sean Fleming, President of the Irish Judo Association, presented the girls with their new judo suits to kick off the 'Women & Girls in Sport' programme for Irish Judo.  Irish Judo have supported the St. Dominic's Judo Academy project by subsidising the cost of  judo suits and licenses to help sustain the project.

St. Dominic's have a rich history in sport and judo has played a significant role in that.  Many pupils of St. Dominic's practice judo, and indeed have competed at the highest level for club and country.  It is hoped that the development of a 'Girls Only' Judo Academy at St. Dominic's will continue to be part of sporting life at the school.

There are places and subsidies still  available at the academy that is on Thursday evenings from 6.00-7.00pm.
