A-level business studies and financial studies students in St Dominic’s have the opportunity to study Arabic as part of our departmental enrichment programme. Business opportunities in the Arabic world are growing for our local exporters and there is demand for business graduates who have a knowledge of the culture and Arabic language skills.
Rym Akhonzada, Director of Interlingua Language Solutions, takes our students for weekly lessons in partnership with Methodist College and the girls are working towards an OCN qualification. St Dominic’s has been involved with the Arabic programme for the last four years now (A project funded by Qatar Foundation International).
Today our students attended the Arabic Conference in Belfast and learned about the importance to our local business community of exports to Arabic speaking countries. They also gained an insight into the culture, music and dance as well as learning about the humanitarian work by local people in Syria and Sudan.
