Congratulations to Lucy Flannery Year 9 who has been selected as a member of the NICCY (NI Commissioner for Children and Young People) youth panel. Lucy will be part of a team committed to safeguarding & promoting the rights and best interests of children and young people. The panel use the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (the UNCRC) to guide their work. Lucy has already begun training on the 42 basic rights which every child and young person in Northern Ireland should have. The youth members, including Lucy, will hopefully help the Commissioner’s work in ensuring children and young people have access to these rights in their day-to-day lives, so all have the opportunity to reach their full potential. The Youth Panel shares their experiences and thoughts with the Commissioner and her staff, helping NICCY make decisions about issues that affect children and young people. Lucy is one of the youngest members selected to serve on the NICCY youth panel.
