The school has given high priority to the development of the use of ICT to enhance teaching and learning. Through a Managed Service provided by C2K the School operates a whole school network of workstations, laptops and associated peripherals as well as 2 small Apple Mac suites. The post-holder will have a key role in the maintenance and continual development of this network.
Following an extensive external assessment in January 2014 St Dominic’s was awarded the prestigious ICT Becta Mark. The award recognised the school’s success in developing the strategic use of technology in both administration and across the curriculum. St Dominic’s believes that where technology is integrated effectively into the heart of education is should enhance and individualise the learner’s educational experience, helping them enjoy learning, improve their performance and raise standards.
The ICT Technician is an employee of the Board of Governors of St. Dominic’s High School. While the post holder will report to the Director of ICT, he/she will liaise with other members of staff taking requests for assistance. The post holder will be expected to work under his/her own initiative to ensure a high standard of provision throughout the school.
St Dominic’s High School is a Catholic Voluntary Grammar School for Girls. The School ethos is characterised by the strong pastoral care dimension which permeates every aspect of School life. All members of the school community share responsibility for maintaining the caring atmosphere of the school and each staff member, teaching and non-teaching, is expected to be guided by this in all dealings with the pupils.
Purpose of Post
To be responsible for the ongoing support and administration/maintenance of the School’s ICT networks, stand-alone computers and peripherals.
To assist in the development of these networks and to assist in the development of ICT, in general, across all curriculum areas.
To assist staff and students with the use of ICT hardware and software.
To ensure that St Dominic’s remains at the cutting edge of ICT development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To provide support and assistance to the SLT by taking responsibility for:
Provision and maintenance of ICT facilities and resources
Ensure that all systems are fully functional to meet the needs of the school.
Daily care and maintenance of all computer systems and their environment including the Mac suites.
In conjunction with the managed service, the installation of software onto computers and networks.
Ensuring that software is accessible to staff and pupils
Installation of new computer equipment.
Ensure that hardware and network cabling is maintained and repaired.
Respond to equipment malfunctions and, under direction, take appropriate action to deal with faults. The C2k managed service provides a Helpdesk.
Service and carry out simple repairs to computer equipment. Where appropriate organise the repair of equipment either on site or with agencies as appropriate.
Monitoring and maintaining new equipment, software and consumables.
The setting up and management of users onto the network.
VLE Administrator: Take responsibility for the administration of the Virtual Learning Environment in collaboration with the Director of ICT. (We currently use Studywiz VLE but this may change over time)
Annual rollover of data from SIMS to the VLE. Amend data annually within the VLE according to the new timetables and class lists in August.
Re-setting passwords, provide staff training and general housekeeping of the VLE.
- Assist staff and pupils with hardware and software problems arising from the use of ICT equipment within the classroom.
- Set up stand alone computer systems/laptops for specific teaching/training situations and functions within the school.
- Becoming familiar with current software being used on the computer system and assisting in training of staff that are unfamiliar with it.
Support ICT staff with the delivery of training duing INSET days/staff meetings.
Provide regular tutorial support on specific software to non-ICT specialist teachers where needed.
Provide technical support for staff.
- Provide regular support sessions for ICT pupils in various software packages.
Records and Administration
Keep an up to date inventory of all hardware, software and consumables.
Maintain a well organised/labelled storage system.
Maintain a booking system for ICT facilities including the ICT online booking system.
Comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Copyright laws.
Contact outside agencies (on school’s behalf) concerning facilities and developments and deal with visiting personnel.
Ordering of ICT related consumables in liaison with the Bursar.
Advise other departments about suitable suppliers for the purchase of computer consumables.
Catalogue, update and maintain an inventory of all ICT related hardware.
Participate in the Ipad Pilot Group
Provide technical support for teachers who are users of Ipads
Due to the rapid evolving nature of ICT the post holder will be required to support new and emerging hardware and software developments as well as keep abreast of new initiatives in the ICT field.
Salary Scale : NJC Pts 14-17 (Currently £16,781 - £17,772)Pro rata
