For the second year, the Royal Society of Biology has provided grant funding to coordinate and run a National Spelling Bee for Biology Week 2024 competition and it is open to all UK and Channel Islands’ students aged between 11-19 in all educational settings.
This is the first year that St Dominic’s Girls Grammar School has ran this competition.
Literacy is a key factor in an individual’s success in science exams and during a pupil’s journey. With learning science they encounter a huge number and variety of new words. These words may not be commonly used outside of science classrooms and so pupils may get fewer opportunities to practise accurate spelling of science words.
Well done to Jane Umeh who came first in year 8 and both Anayaa Rahate and Akshara Rakesh both in year 12 who achieved full marks.
