Numeracy

Numeracy is the ability to apply appropriate mathematical skills and knowledge in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. Strong numeracy skills help students understand the world around them and support the development of decision-making, problem-solving, and information-processing skills.
At St. Dominic's Grammar School, we are committed to developing students’ numeracy skills and building their confidence in applying these skills in real-world situations. Numeracy is promoted across all subject areas, with staff highlighting opportunities to use mathematical concepts within their disciplines.
Our schemes of work have been carefully designed to incorporate cross-curricular numeracy activities. Throughout the academic year, each year group participates in a range of numeracy-focused tasks that encourage the practical application of mathematical skills.
Resources to support students:
These resources provide additional support for students and parents, helping to strengthen mathematical understanding and confidence both in school and at home.
Maths Club and Numeracy Support
Maths Club runs every Wednesday afternoon throughout the year. A level mathematics students provide support for KS3 and KS4 students. Students can receive support on a topic covered in class, or with preparation for upcoming assessments. Additionally, some students will receive targeted support from our numeracy support teacher.
Student Opportunities
Students can participate in a variety of numeracy challenges, including:
Key Stage Three:
-
UK Mathematics Trust Junior Mathematical Challenge
Key Stage Four:
-
UK Mathematics Trust Intermediate Mathematical Challenge
Key Stage Five:
-
UK Mathematics Trust Senior Mathematical Challenge
-
UK Mathematics Trust Team Challenge
-
