Year 12s Citizenship & Health & Well-Being Curriculum Talk
Paul Doherty came to speak to our year 12s in assembly as part of their citizenship and health and well-being curriculum about the effects of poverty in our community. He spoke about his work and the impact of the school’s donations each Christmas. Paul revealed that the school’s efforts helped over 40 families to get through the Christmas period last year– providing toys, food, and support through the community hub in Andersonstown. Mathematics GCSE Revision Sessions
Any Year 11 or 12 pupil sitting M2/M3/M4/M7 on the 18 th and 20 th November is expected to attend a booster on Friday 14 th November. Please see the attached information. Full uniform expected and to bring packed lunch/water as canteen is closed. Please bring calculators and maths sets. AS Geography Fieldwork/ Fieldtrip
Yesterday, the AS geographers travelled to Magilligan Field Centre and the Umbra Nature Reserve to study vegetation succession in sand dunes. We worked as teams to collect soil samples along a transect, and data relating to plant species, temperature, wind speed, wind direction and light intensity. This hands-on experience was fun, helped to develop our fieldwork skills and certainly brought the theory of vegetation succession to life.

Year 12 Geography Field Trip
On Wednesday 22 nd October our GCSE Geography students spent the day at Curly Burn River, near Derry investigating how the river’s characteristics change along its course. They measured width, depth, velocity, and bedload, linking their findings to the Bradshaw Model. A great day of hands-on learning and real-world geography in action!

🌿 Eco Club News! 🌿
Our Eco Club met with Moragaine McParland from Ulster Wildlife to discuss taking part in the exciting “Wild Youth” programme . This initiative helps young people improve their mental health and wellbeing by connecting with nature through hands-on, outdoor activities right here in our local area. Poster Winners
The Anti Chewing Gum Campaign was launched by the Student Council. Pupils were asked to design creative posters promoting responsible behaviour and good hygiene. Congratulations to all the winners!

Shared Education – Politics in Action
Our Year 13 Politics in Action group met for the first time last week to begin this year’s project. The group got off to a lively start, focusing on political polarisation as part of Politics in Action’s ‘Citizens Now’ theme for the year. Students will investigate various issues from a ‘local to global’ context and hope to meet a few politicians to inform their work along the way!

Biology Spelling Bee 2025
This year 258 schools registered to take part, which is phenomenal and a special thanks must go to the team at the Royal Society of Biology for promoting the competition in its third year. Well done to Aashritha Bhardwaj who won our first-year competition with full marks - 20/20. Well done to the Science prefects who organised and ran the event in school.

Eco Club plant tree gifted to St Dominic’s by Clonard
Members of the Eco Club, Clara Rooney and Erin Crangle-McLaughlin planted a Himalayan Birch tree in the school grounds this week, which was generously donated by Clonard .
