For the second year, the Royal Society of Biology has provided grant funding to coordinate and run a National Spelling Bee for Biology Week 2024 competition and it is open to all UK and Channel Islands’ students aged between 11-19 in all educational settings.
Literacy is a key factor in an individual’s success in Science exams and during a pupil’s journey. With learning science they encounter a huge number and variety of new words. These words may not be commonly used outside of science classrooms and so pupils may get fewer opportunities to practise accurate spelling of science words. The qualifying round will be completed by students writing their spellings of twenty randomly selected words (page 2) that have been read aloud by their teacher. The finals will require verbal spellings following international spelling bee rules. There will be prizes! Good luck to everyone!
If you wish to take part, please collect the words from Mr. Waters (Sci 9) before Tuesday September 24th. The competition will take part towards the end of the week.
