This is an opportunity available to Year 9 & 10 students only. Run through the Young Citizens ‘citizenship experiences’ it helps improve young people’s understanding of the justice system and the legal system as they take on the roles of barristers, witnesses and court staff in a fictitious court case against other schools. Auditions take place in December followed by weekly practice for the Northern Ireland final of the competition which is usually held on the first or second Saturday in March. St. Dominic's have won the NI final 5 times since they first entered the competition in 2010, most recently in 2025!
Year 10 Mock Magistrates Team in London After Winning 2025 Northern Ireland Final!
Our talented Year 10 Mock Magistrates team had an unforgettable weekend in London, celebrating their incredible achievement of winning the 2025 Northern Ireland Final back in March.
The trip began with some well-deserved downtime exploring the city, including a fantastic evening at the West End to see Matilda the Musical!
On Saturday, the team competed in the Final of the Mock Magistrates’ Court Trial, going head-to-head with 15 other top schools from across the UK. They delivered confident and compelling prosecution and defence arguments, showcasing all the hard work they’ve put in throughout the year. The girls have developed impressive legal knowledge and public speaking skills — we are so proud of their dedication, teamwork, and professionalism throughout the entire competition.
Well done, girls — you’ve done yourselves and the school proud!
