On Tuesday 24th June, St Dominic’s was delighted to host the Being Well Doing Well Celebration and Networking Event in conjunction with the Education Authority.

Principals and Well Being Champions from almost sixty schools were in attendance to receive their accreditation for this project. St Dominic’s is now about to enter its third year as a BWDW school and it is having a significant impact on how we empower our students, staff and parents in their approach to emotional health.

The delegates were addressed by Mr McMaster, Mr Thomas and two of our Wellbeing Prefects, Erin Rice and Caitlin Crookes. The girls shared their own experiences of how we approach wellbeing at St Dominic’s and it is safe to say that their authenticity and composure stole the show. They were even interviewed by BBCNI’s Robbie Meredith.

We were also aided by a team of students who welcomed the delegates. Iona Casey and Orlagh Abram of Year 11 managed a Y10 group comprising of Best Akinsehinde, Aya Askar, Maebh Tracey, Eadaoin McCarry, Aoibhe McCrory McCabe, Grace Kelly, Ruby Garland and Clare Rooney. Their friendly welcome was so impressive that the guest speaker, Ronnie Armour, Deputy Principal at the Department of Education, took time to mention them in his speech.

The delegates were also treated to some wonderful traditional music from Etain Murphy (Y10), Fionnuala Murphy (Y12) and Miss McCartan.

We would like to thank all of the team from EA, especially Sharon Clerkin who has supported us throughout this journey and to our own Eamon McKinney, Sean McGeown, Irene Lamb and Joel Mulhern for their help in making this event such a success.
