Recently,  two of our Year 13 Biologists, Leah McNally and Una McGowan, took on the inspiring role of mentoring six Year 8 girls in the Civil Service STEM Challenge. The six young participants—Kelly McCorry, Kelsey McCrystal, Aoibhe Martin, Fiadh Kelly, Ria Conere, and Autumn Adeyemi—worked under the guidance of Leah and Una, gaining invaluable insights and hands-on experience in the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Throughout the challenge, Leah and Una provided mentorship, support, and encouragement, helping their mentees navigate the various aspects of the competition. The Year 8 girls developed key skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation as they tackled real-world STEM problems. The experience fostered their creativity and helped spark an interest in STEM fields, empowering them to envision future careers in science and technology.

The mentoring program not only allowed the Year 8 girls to learn from their older peers but also helped Leah and Una develop leadership and communication skills, making the initiative a win-win for all involved. The mentorship played a vital role in motivating young girls to pursue their passions and showcased the importance of peer-to-peer support in fostering growth and confidence in the STEM fields.
