The Science Department offers an array of opportunities through competitions, talks, exhibitions, Yr 8 Science club, Crest Awards and many more.
Aashritha Bhardwaj, 8C won the Royal Society of Biology Yr 8 Biology Spelling bee.
Faraday Challenge facilitated by SENTINUS: A group of Year 8 and Year 9 students worked as part of a team to research, design and make prototype solutions to real-world engineering problems.
Key Stage 3 pupils celebrated National Science Week by carrying out an investigation. Pupils constructed an “Egg Zipline” and timed how long it took for the egg to successfully travel from one end to the other.
Key Stage 3 pupils were awarded Bronze Crest Awards for STEM research. They carried out a range of research topics varying from the aerodynamics of planes, mould, and growing tomato plants in different environments.

National Science Thinking Challenge A group of Yr 11 pupils achieved silver and bronze awards.
Civil Service STEM Competition Results -The six participants—Kelly McCorry, Kelsey McCrystal, Aoibhe Martin, Fiadh Kelly, Ria Conere, and Autumn Adeyemi were highly commended in their work as the competition is for pupils aged 11 to 14.
RSC Top of the Bench Competition. Mae McNamee and Nellie Ryder, Yr 11 pupil Molly McShane and Aksharah Rakesh represented St. Dominic’s.
Intermediate Biology Olympiad: A Level pupils Una McGowan (Silver), Emma McCartney and Ella Mathews (highly Commended) and Evie Dawson (commended).
Thanks to the Northern Ireland Space Office and the UK Space Agency, as we hosted The Cosmos – A 3D Journey Through Space for Key Stage 3 pupils.
Senior Biology Olympiad :Well done to Jo Jo He (Silver) Ava Armstrong (Bronze) and Anna Neal (Bronze), Mischa Hampshire (Bronze), Una McGowan (Commended), Laksha Singh (Commended) and Emma Meenan, Amparo Miralles Bravo, Ella Matthews, and Kaci Bracken Irvine who all participated.
Senior Physics Olympiad: Year 14 Physics students recently received certificates, with 6 students achieving a Silver Award and 8 achieving a Bronze Award.
Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad Competition: Molly Lavery, Maria Casey and Jenna Ferguson achieved silver and bronze awards.
RSC Schools Analyst Chemistry Competition: Blessing Niche, Eilada Almohamad and Kaci Bracken Irvine won the internal award.
John Hooper Poster Competition - Well done to Anna Neal “The end and is it really nigh? A study on the past and potential causes of mass extinction. Isha Deshpande “Exploring the Efficiency and Potential of powering aircraft on Thorium-Based Nuclear energy: A Sustainable Energy Solution for the future?”. Annaya Rahate “Investigating if cloud microphysics can predict future atmospheric turbulences” who all competed and were highly commended for their work.
Year 13 Physics student Ananyaa Rahate has qualified to present and take part in the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in Dublin. Her project is titled Bio-assisted Micro-Combustion: Using Soybean Chemiluminescence to Modulate Ignition and Investigating if this can Lead to a More Sustainable Fuel Source.
