The History Club in St. Dominic's creates additional opportunities for students to engage with the subject after school and promotes a greater appreciation of history throughout the school.  Students have participated in a range of activities, including seasonal workshops, such as making Edwardian-style Christmas cards and traditional Christmas decorations.  We have also held a Vintage Fashion Show in which staff and students modelled fashions from the 1900s-1990s.  In 2025 our History Club created a Museum of Childhood.  Students worked together to research and gather toys from the past and they also interviewed staff about their favourite toys as children.  The exhibition was held in the school library and all year groups had the opportunity to view it.  The exhibition was noticed by the Ulster Museum who asked to display a selection of items for the public to view.  Students were invited to the museum and helped to prepare the exhibition, which was on show to the public throughout May and June 2025.

The History and Archaeology Club provides pupils with an opportunity to explore the past in a creative and engaging way. This year, pupils have undertaken individual projects focused on a historical period of their choosing, ranging from ancient civilisations to more modern events. Through independent research, they developed their understanding of key themes, people, and developments, before presenting their findings to the group and building confidence in their communication skills.

Based on their research, pupils produced a creative piece inspired by their chosen topic. This ranged from models, to artwork, and other hands-on pieces that brought history to life and allowed them to demonstrate their understanding in a meaningful and imaginative way. Our club has fostered curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning beyond the classroom, while providing a relaxed and supportive environment.

The History and Archaeology Club will continue to run next year, and we look forward to welcoming new and returning pupils to explore the past together!
